Michael1-full.jpg (44298 bytes)"A jack of all trades is master of none."  One doesn't often find "jacks" in the workplace today.  The quotation is so archaic, you won't even find it in Bartlett's Familiar Quotations.  Perhaps we need an updated statement of this familiar concept.

"If you try to know too much, you won't know jack."   Michael Freeborn has not attempted to be all things to all people.   Rather, he has concentrated his litigation practice in six specific areas:

bulletAntitrust litigation;
bulletCommercial litigation;
bulletEmployment law;
bulletEnvironmental litigation;
bulletProduct liability; and
bulletSecurities litigation.

Although the substantive law varies in these areas, in each there are transferable litigation skills.

The rules of evidence and procedure, of course, apply regardless of the type of case.  But there's more -- in every case trial counsel must humanize the corporation, putting the client's best foot forward.

Whether it is antitrust litigation or an employment dispute, securities fraud case or disagreement over an environmental cleanup, trial counsel always needs to put a face on the organization.  And not just a pretty face.

A good trial lawyer must tell a credible story that resonates with the listener.  He must be an engaging speaker, a good communicator who can simplify complex issues.  He must motivate responsible behavior in the decisionmaker.

This begins earlier than some realize. When it's time to tell your side of the story, good trial counsel has already been telling your side.
