On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) will take effect in the European Union (“EU). This regulation will apply to all companies, wherever located, that collect, process, or monitor “personal data” of users located within the EU.
GDPR requires companies to be responsible for, and be able to demonstrate compliance with the GDPR principles governing personal data processing. Data is a critical element for nearly every business. With GDPR, companies need to assemble business, technology, and legal teams to prepare for this new data management regime.
