Denial of Motion to Withdraw Immediately Appealable

The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois holds that a former general counsel for a school district was not barred from recovering post-termination breach of contract damages. In rejecting the school district™s argument that the plaintiff™s service as a lawyer allowed the district to discharge its lawyer at any time, the court noted that the former general counsel alleged that his duties went beyond those of merely serving as general counsel. The court also noted that the purported reason for the termination, "cost effectiveness," was not related to the plaintiff™s employment as counsel for the school district and the attorney-client relationship.
