National Law Journal Ranks Freeborn’s $315 Million Victory for Shuffle Tech LLC Among Top 10 Verdicts of 2018

19 Jun 2019

The National Law Journal (NLJ) named Freeborn client Shuffle Tech LLC’s $105 million jury award (which was trebled under the antitrust laws, and entered as a judgment for $315 million) among its top 10 verdicts of 2018. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois case is among the NLJ’s "Top 100 Verdicts of 2018," which was published in the June issue. Shuffle Tech and three other companies accused Scientific Games Corp. of initiating sham litigation to assert invalid patents intended to suppress the market for automatic card-shufflers. Jeffery M. Cross, a Partner in the Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Antitrust and Complex Litigation Team, was a member of the team led by attorneys Joseph S. Presta and Robert A. Rowan of Nixon Vanderhye P.C. Freeborn attorneys John M. O’Bryan and Tina Wills and Freeborn paralegal John Croes also assisted the Nixon Vanderhye team on the case.
