Goldstein and Garry to Present General Data Protection Regulation Overview Webinar

Event Date

April 16, 2018

Description

On May 25, 2018, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) becomes the standardized law of 27 countries in the European Union (EU). GDPR applies to all companies providing goods or services or monitoring the behavior of EU citizens or other “data subjects,” irrespective of a company’s location. GDPR applies whether or not a company has presence in the EU and it can apply merely by the use of cookies on a company’s website. From 11 a.m. to Noon April 16, Freeborn attorneys and Corporate Practice Group members Andrew L. Goldstein and Rita W. Garry will present the Illinois Technology Association (ITA) webinar “The European Union (EU) General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Overview.” The discussion will cover the consents that must be obtained, as well as the expanded rights that are provided under the GDPR regarding the collection of personal data, including the rights to correct, port and erase, and the “right to be forgotten.” The webinar information is important for companies that must show they take privacy seriously (Privacy By Design) and demonstrate accountability for personal data. During the webinar, Mr. Goldstein will address “What is data and where is it?” and Ms. Garry will provide a “GDPR checklist.” For information about the webinar, which is open to ITA members and non-members, click here.
