Description

Freeborn Partner Robert Stines will serve on a panel at "Managing Risk at the Intersection of Cybersecurity, Data Privacy and Business" presented by the American Bar Association's Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Cybersecurity & Data Privacy Committee.

This program will bring together experts in the areas of risk management, insurance, law enforcement and technology to discuss the identification and mitigation of cyber exposures across myriad legal landscapes. While the use of technology is crucial for increasing efficiency and productivity—and the gathering and use of personal identifiable information can personalize and enhance customer service—there are profound legal consequences arising from a failure to protect private information from negligent and criminal conduct. This program will help risk managers, executives, in-house counsel and law firm managing partners and practicing attorneys better predict and prepare for cyber threats, which now impact the majority of substantive practice areas. Most risk managers and in-house counsel report that data protection is of paramount importance and is what keeps them awake at night. This program will also help attorneys in all practice areas better understand cyber perils and risk mitigation, including relevant insurance coverages, so they can better advise their clients and help protect their own firms.

Robert's panel, entitled, "Resolving Cyberliability Claims and Related Insurance Coverage Disputes," will explore the characteristics of cyberliability claims and the attendant insurance coverage disputes that have arisen from them and are likely to arise in the future. This panel will describe how these disputes have been resolved through settlement discussions, mediation and litigation and how these procedures are best used in potential upcoming disputes.
