Workshop

Termination without Litigation

Event Date

May 6, 2004

Description

A joint meeting of the Employment Relationship and Small Business Committees was held on Thursday, May 6, 2004 at 8:00 a.m. at Freeborn & Peters, 311 S. Wacker Drive, 30th Floor, to discuss termination without litigation. The speakers were Marc Jacobs, Partner, Seyfarth Shaw and Helen Baker, Partner, Freeborn & Peters LLP.

If you've ever had to terminate an employee, or been terminated yourself, you know the stress and discomfort of that experience.  When terminations are improperly done, not only is it painful for the participants, but it has the potential to be expensive for the employer should the terminated employee opt to sue.

Human Resources executives can take simple steps to manage the termination process to reduce stress and avoid litigation. Two highly experienced labor and employment attorneys discussed these simple steps at the May meeting. While termination is never be a pleasant experience, our experts offered practical advice on easing the discomfort of the experience and minimizing liability.
