William Spence is the moderator at the U.S.-China Trade and Economic Cooperation Forum, to be held Friday, January 21, 2011.  Mr. Spence will moderate a business panel session titled, “Promote Bilateral Investment and Sustainable Development”  with Caterpillar President Richard Lavin and ZTE USA President Chen Lixin. This event coincides with Chinese President Hu Jintao’s visit to Chicago this week.

His Excellency Chen Deming, Chinese Commerce Minister, will open the program. This high-level symposium will feature four panels with senior business and government leaders from both nations, focusing on the future of China-U.S. business relations. Topics will include: building a long-term sustainable commercial relationship, promoting clean energy and a green economy, and deepening small and medium enterprise (SME) partnerships. The forum will conclude with a luncheon keynote address by Chinese Vice Commerce Minister His Excellency Wang Chao.

The summit will be attended by Chicago and Midwest business executives and a Chinese delegation of close to 400 senior executives from industries including: energy, automotive, electrical equipment, construction, real estate, banking, food, textile, and pharmaceuticals.

Mr. Spence is a Senior Counsel at Freeborn & Peters LLP and is Chairman of the China Practice Group. He is the Co-Chairman of the Chicago Sister Cities China Committee, a founding member of the board and president pro temp of the Chicago China Economic Development Center, a member of the Chinatown Museum Advisory Board, the Chinese American Service League Advisory Board, the Xilin Association Advisory Board and was a member of the study group which produced The Global Edge: An Agenda For Chicago’s Future.
