Freeborn client, Canadian National Railway Company, took home a top prize at the 2nd Annual Dealmakers Awards dinner, held on February 18, 2009 in Toronto, Canada. Canadian National won the Industrials Industry sector Dealmakers Award for 2008, for its $300 million acquisition of the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company.
The Canadian Dealmakers Awards honor Canadian companies and individuals whose transactions have significantly benefited their industries by:
- Promoting innovation and growth
- Establishing M&A best practices
- Enhancing customer service and/or product delivery
- Creating value that extends beyond a return on investment
This prestigious award is one of very few annual awards for excellence in Canadian deal making. Cynthia A. Bergmann, a Partner in Freeborn's Corporate Practice Group, and her team at the firm were also recognized for their work as lead counsel for the transaction.
