TAMPA, Fla. – Freeborn & Peters LLP is pleased to announce that Jason P. Stearns, Partner in the firm’s Tampa office and member of the Litigation Practice Group, has been named by TAMPA Magazine as among its 2019 “Top Lawyers.” Mr. Stearns is listed #1 (two-way tie) for Litigation: Intellectual Property.

“We congratulate Jason on being selected as a 2019 ‘Top Lawyer’ by TAMPA Magazine,” said Lawrence P. Ingram, Managing Partner of the firm’s Tampa office. “Jason’s expertise in his intellectual property practice has earned him this well-deserved recognition from his peers in the market.”

Last week, Mr. Stearns and another Freeborn attorney obtained a successful jury verdict in a copyright case. The jury found that the defendants willfully infringed the client’s copyright in a proprietary training manual and denied a third-party intervenor’s declaratory judgment claims for invalidity and ownership relating to our client’s copyrighted manual.

A local lifestyle publication, TAMPA Magazine determines the “Top Lawyers” through anonymous surveys sent to more than 7,000 licensed lawyers throughout the Tampa area, asking them to nominate their peers whom they believe to be the “best” attorneys in each of 80 practice areas. Lawyers cannot buy their way onto the “Top Lawyer” list, and only lawyers nominated by their peers are eligible for consideration. TAMPA Magazine has published its “Top Lawyers” list since 2016.

Mr. Stearns practices in the area of complex commercial litigation. He has litigated several patent, copyright and trademark infringement claims in federal courts throughout the country. In addition, he represents clients in various industries with regard to contract, fraud, trade secret and other business disputes. Mr. Stearns received his J.D. (cum laude) from Stetson University College of Law and his Bachelor of Arts from Valdosta State University.
