New Law Written

In February, one of our marquee national clients came to us and requested our advice on whether it had sufficient legal authority for a critical aspect of its transactional business in Illinois. After reviewing the issue, we determined that securing a specific statutory grant of authority for the self storage industry would be the most prudent manner to protect our client's commercial activity. We were then asked to essentially write a new law and pass it before the Illinois General Assembly.  John Stevens, our resident partner in Springfield, took the lead in personally lining up the sponsors, negotiating with adverse industry interests, lining up all witnesses for Committee hearings and securing the necessary support from the General Assembly and Administration. Last week, Senate Bill 1150 passed the General Assembly by a vote of 114-2 and awaits the Governor's signature.
