About

Sean Quinn is a Partner in the Litigation Practice Group and a member of the Intellectual Property Group. He focuses his practice on helping businesses protect their intellectual property and resolving complex commercial disputes. Sean manages intellectual property litigations involving trademark, trade dress, copyright, trade secret, and unfair competition claims. He also manages complex commercial litigations involving contractual matters, fraud, employment, and shareholder disputes.

In addition to his litigation practice, Sean actively manages global trademark portfolios and develops brand building and protection strategies for his clients. He has counseled Fortune 500 corporations, small companies and individuals regarding the procurement, enforcement, and licensing of intellectual property rights. Sean has also conducted sophisticated trademark searches and rendered clearance and infringement opinions involving both copyright and trademark law.

Prior to joining Freeborn, Sean served as a Partner at SouthBank Legal in South Bend, Indiana. Outside of work, Sean enjoys playing golf and chess, following Premier League Soccer and Major League Baseball, and watching his three daughters’ sporting events and musical performances.

  • Represented a prominent home design company in dozens of copyright, DMCA, and contract suits across the United States.

  • Successfully litigated and tried a trademark lawsuit for a musical instrument distributor against a large national competitor. The federal jury found infringement and returned a verdict for the firm’s client.

  • Prosecuted copyright infringement and DMCA claims for an artist whose designs were alleged to be unlawfully copied by companies in the marine industry.

  • Prosecuted trade dress and trade secret claims for an RV designer and manufacturer against a start-up competitor.

  • Successfully prosecuted copyright infringement claims around the country for a well-known biologist and wildlife artist whose artistic renderings of various animal species had been misappropriated by dozens of businesses and individuals.

  • Represented a Fortune 500 medical device company in patent infringement, breach of contract, and trade secrets litigation.

  • Obtained emergency injunctive relief for an industrial services client allowing it to complete the sale of its assets following an evidentiary hearing.

  • Registered and maintained hundreds of copyrights, trademarks, and patents for clients in the United States, China, the EU, Japan, and Korea.

  • Frequently advised clients about intellectual property licensing.

  • Represented Lake Michigan lakefront landowners in property and easement disputes.

  • Advised dozens of businesses about the implications of the CARES Act and other COVID-19 economic relief legislation.

  • Defended a multinational auto manufacturer located in Michiana against several EEOC charges and employment lawsuits.

  • Obtained emergency injunctive relief for a large regional bank against a commercial and residential developer and a modular construction company following a two-day evidentiary hearing.

  • Defended a Fortune 500 medical device company in hundreds of product defect lawsuits across the country.

  • Advised non-profit organizations and multi-state businesses about differing sick-leave laws and health benefits for same-sex spouses.

  • Defended claims against a nephrologist for alleged violations of non-compete and non-solicitation provisions in an employment contract.

  • Defended a regional hotel chain against property claims filed by subcontractors.

  • Defended a commercial warehouse landowner against property claims filed by a railroad construction subcontractor.

  • Represented local governmental entities and county governments in personal injury, medical malpractice, and employment-related lawsuits.

  • Conducted investigations into claims of discrimination, retaliation, and harassment for governmental entities, private businesses, and non-profit organizations.
