Chambers USA 2021 Highly Ranks Freeborn Environment and Energy Practice Group Leader Philip Comella in Illinois

CHICAGO – Freeborn & Peters LLP is pleased to announce that Chambers USA has once again ranked Philip L. Comella, the Leader of the firm’s Environment and Energy Practice Group.

In the 2021 edition of the Chambers guide that lists the top lawyers and law firms in the United States, firm Partner Philip L. Comella was ranked in Illinois for Environment: Litigation.

“We are very thrilled about the continued recognition of our Leader of the firm’s Environment & Energy Practice Group in the 2021 edition of the prestigious Chambers USA guide,” said Freeborn Co-Managing Partner William E. Russell. “We congratulate Phil, who has strategically created and grown a strong and hardworking group of attorneys that serve clients in both the environmental and energy sectors.”

During the Chambers research process, a client noted: “Philip Comella is extremely detailed in explaining the lawsuit and expressing what he needs for both handling the lawsuit as well as demonstrating the weaknesses in the other side’s argument. He is very open-minded to suggestions. He understands the environmental laws and regulations far more than any other law firms I have worked with in the past.”

Freeborn’s Environment and Energy Practice Group advises and represents corporations in multiple industries to mitigate risk and resolve disputes related to emerging and long-standing issues in environment and energy law. The group includes a diverse group of environment and energy law practitioners whose skills range from the traditional areas - such as Superfund, hazardous and solid waste, PCBs, the Clean Air Act, and Brownfields - to emerging areas - such as naturally occurring radioactive materials, RINS, landfill gas, vapor intrusion, renewable energy, data centers, and electronic waste.

Mr. Comella’s practice spans both regulatory counseling and environmental-based litigation. With more than three decades of experience in environmental law, and a focus on the solid and hazardous waste industry, he regularly counsels owners and operators of landfills, treatment facilities, recycling operations, and waste generators on compliance and permitting matters arising under the environmental laws. Phil Comella serves as the Leader of the Environment and Energy Practice Group, as well as on the firm’s Executive Committee.
