Freeborn Elevates Troy Smith to Partner

CHICAGO Freeborn & Peters LLP is pleased to announce that the firm has elevated attorney Troy D. Smith to Income Partner.

“We congratulate Troy on his elevation to Income Partner,” said Freeborn Co-Managing Partner William E. Russell. “His work in the continually evolving patent and intellectual property space is an asset to our clients.”

Mr. Smith is a member of the Litigation Practice Group and the Emerging Industries Team. He counsels clients on intellectual property issues with a focus on strategic patent procurement, intellectual property enforcement and defense, and intellectual property portfolio management. He has developed patent portfolios, including domestic and foreign patents, for small and large companies, provided patent opinions, and provided litigation analysis. He also works to manage risks posted by third party patent rights, including the use of post-grant proceedings, opinions, freedom to operate analysis, and third party pre-issuance submissions. He received his J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law (cum laude), his Master of Science in Computer Science (with distinction) from DePaul University and his Bachelor of Science from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
