Freeborn Expands New York City Office, Welcomes Partner Michael Rennock and Senior Counsel John McConnell

NEW YORK – Freeborn & Peters LLP is pleased to announce the continued growth of its New York City office with the additions of Michael J.W. Rennock as a Partner in the Corporate Practice Group and John P. McConnell as senior counsel in the Litigation Practice Group.

John is a great fit with our established group of litigators focused on insurance and reinsurance matters.”

A member of Freeborn’s Private Equity and Venture Capital and Emerging Industries teams, Mr. Rennock focuses on mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, corporate governance and various private equity and venture capital transactions. He represents acquirers, sellers, boards of directors, and board committees, as well as issuers and investors. Mr. Rennock regularly advises buyers and sellers in both public and private mergers and acquisitions, asset sales, and other dispositions. He has represented both issuers and underwriters in IPOs and secondary offerings, high-yield and convertible debt financings, and Rule 144A and Reg S offerings. In addition, Mr. Rennock has experience with other sophisticated transactions such as recapitalizations, joint ventures, spinoffs, secured and unsecured borrowings, and project financings.

Mr. Rennock represents public and private companies in a wide variety of industries, including telecommunications, healthcare, wireless communications, electronic data transmission, defense, retail, child care, banking, energy, and transportation.

Prior to joining Freeborn, Mr. Rennock was a partner at Steptoe & Johnson LLP.

Mr. Rennock received his J.D. (with honors) from Duke University School of Law and his Bachelor of Arts (with honors) from Harvard University.

A member of the firm’s nationally acclaimed Insurance and Reinsurance Industry Team, Mr. McConnell has extensive experience resolving complex reinsurance and insurance-related disputes. His practice involves insurance law and regulation, proportional and non-proportional reinsurance, reinsurance treaties and facultative certificates, and insurance contracts.

Mr. McConnell previously was a principal at Hargraves, McConnell & Costigan, P.C., which combined with Freeborn in 2017.

Mr. McConnell received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and his Bachelor of Arts (with high distinction) from the University of Virginia.

Freeborn’s Litigation Practice Group has grown significantly over the last few years, with capabilities and geographical reach that rival many Am Law 100 firms in the nation.
