Freeborn & Peters LLP Sponsors Virtual First-Year Appellate Advocacy Competition in Partnership with Stetson University College of Law

TAMPA – Freeborn & Peters LLP is thrilled to have sponsored the First-Year Appellate Advocacy Competition for Stetson University College of Law students for the fourth year in a row. The competition took place Tuesday, April 13, 2021 and Wednesday, April 14, 2021, and attorneys from Freeborn’s Tampa office, Jason Stearns, Robert Stines, Ian Dankelman, Christina Flatau, Sarah Gottlieb and Hoyt Prindle, volunteered as judges.

Throughout the competition, the panel of judges provided the law students with as many as 15 questions per oralist in a 10-minute argument. The competition was held virtually via Zoom to ensure a safe yet interactive environment for the students and judges.

“It was an honor to join the attorneys from Freeborn’s Tampa office who spent the time to support the First-Year Appellate Advocacy Competition for Stetson University College of Law students,” says Freeborn Partner Jason Stearns. “Congratulations to the students who participated. We saw how the students rose above the challenges presented by the pandemic last year, and this year’s students were just as impressive.”

This collaborative competition has been hosted by Stetson University for over 20 years, and gives first-year law school students from the school’s research and writing classes the opportunity to compete for the honor of being named top, second, and third-best oralist. Please join us in congratulating all participating students for their hard work and dedication throughout the competition.
