Goldstein Comments on Trademark Violation Issues Involving Fake Facebook Events

A current social media fad involves fake events posted to Facebook. One Chicago institution associated with a recent fake event is beef manufacturer Vienna Beef, which was the victim of a hoax involving a fake company anniversary concert by singer Morrissey, an ardent vegetarian, at the company's headquarters. Another fake event had rock band Linkin Park playing a concert, sponsored by LinkedIn, at Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo. Andrew L. Goldstein, a member of the Corporate Practice Group who focuses in the area of Intellectual Property, told the Chicago neighborhood news website dnainfo.com that such events could constitute a trademark violation if a company pressed the issue. Goldstein is quoted in the article “Morrissey Is NOT Playing At Vienna Beef (And Other Fake Facebook Events),” which was published May 13, 2016.
