"Illinois' New Anti-SLAPP Statute"

In August 2007, Illinois became the 26th state to enact an Anti-SLAPP — the Citizen Participation Act. SLAPPs, or “Strategic Lawsuits Against Public Participation,” are civil actions brought to discourage citizens from exercising a constitutional right to petition, speak freely, associate freely, or otherwise participate in or communicate with government in opposition to the interests of the plaintiff.
