Landmark ruling by Illinois Supreme Court Finds in Favor of Retailer Defendants Represented by Freeborn & Peters LLP

Recently, the Illinois Supreme Court ruled in two landmark cases in which Freeborn & Peters represented the defendants. The Firm represented Certain Retailer Defendants in two public nuisance and negligent entrustment cases involving the alleged public nuisance created by firearms manufacturers, distributors and retailers. These suits were brought by the City of Chicago and the Estate of Michael Ceriale.  In a cutting-edge decision, the Illinois Supreme Court held that the Defendants could not be liable for the alleged public nuisance alleged to have been created by the lawful manufacture, distribution and sale of firearms.
