Representative Matters

  • Defended a large financial institution relating to a claimed breach of its duties as the guardian of an estate.

  • Lead counsel who drafted briefs and presented oral arguments in business litigation and defamation cases before the Illinois Supreme Court and the Illinois Appellate Court, including a case involving a matter of first impression in the Illinois Supreme Court. Wright Development Group, LLC v. Walsh et al., 238 Ill.2d. 620, 939 N.E.2d 389, (2010).

  • Lead counsel who obtained a multi-million dollar settlement in favor of global supplier of uniformity, dynamic and geometric products in a breach of contract claim in federal court.

  • Lead counsel who obtained a dismissal of a $30 million tortious interference with contract and tortious interference with business expectancy lawsuit against an international information technology services and solutions company.

  • Lead counsel who prosecuted a breach of employment contract and breach of fiduciary duties lawsuit on behalf of an international software solutions and graphic communications company.

  • Lead counsel who secured dismissal of the City of Naperville in a First Amendment federal civil rights lawsuit brought by a sitting City Council member in Furstenau v. City of Naperville, et al., 2008 WL 5412872 (N.D. Ill. Dec. 23, 2008).

  • Secured a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) and defended against a TRO in a state court lawsuit involving breach of employment contract, non-compete and conversion claims.

  • Obtained approval by General Assembly for the expenditure of several million dollars in economic development subsidies for distressed Illinois manufacturing businesses.

  • Adoption of various infant vaccine requirements by the State of Illinois Immunization Advisory Council, Department of Public Health and the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules to achieve consistency with CDC and ACIP guidelines.

  • (House Bill 3440; Public Act 92-008) - Legislation providing $38 million in funding appropriation for not-for-profit related offender re-entry initiatives and treatment.

  • (House Bill 873; Public Act 94-0020) - Authored and secured passage of legislation amending the Illinois Criminal Code to authorize the resale of event tickets on Internet sites.

  • Special Procurement Counsel - Successfully defended a public agency in a significant contract award and served as special counsel to train state agencies’ in-house counsel in the interpretation and application of the new Illinois Procurement Code.

  • (House Bill 5803; Public Act 92-798) - Authored and secured passage of legislation establishing new state regulatory framework for the Internet auction industry.

  • (Senate Bill 603; Public Act 90-253) - Authored and arranged for passage of legislation making significant changes to the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act of 1987.

  • (House Bill 1284; Public Act 91-935) - Served as counsel for legislation securing state bond authorization for $487 million to renovate Chicago’s professional football stadium (Soldier Field) and for related improvements to Chicago’s lakefront.

  • Routinely requested by state and local government bodies to serve as their special counsel in significant legal proceedings.

  • Member of Freeborn Team (and one of the attorneys who presented witness testimony and oral argument at the Preliminary Injunction hearings) in two lawsuits that that challenged two Illinois pension reform laws. In both cases, Freeborn won on summary judgment and obtained rulings that both pension reform laws violated the Illinois Constitution. Both cases were affirmed on appeal to the Illinois Supreme Court. See, In Re Pension Reform Litigation, 2015 IL 118585 (2015); Jones, et al., v.
