Freeborn Attorney Martin Syvertsen Appointed to CBA’s Judicial Evaluation Committee

CHICAGO – Freeborn & Peters LLP is pleased to announce that Martin Syvertsen, an associate in the firm’s Chicago office, has been appointed to the Judicial Evaluation Committee (JEC) of the Chicago Bar Association (CBA).

The JEC conducts evaluations of candidates for judicial offices and sitting judges seeking retention within Cook County. The CBA reports the findings of the JEC for all elections. The evaluations are designed to inform the public and the courts of the qualifications, independence and integrity of judicial candidates.

“We congratulate Martin on his appointment to serve on the Chicago Bar Association’s Judicial Evaluation Committee,” said Freeborn Co-Managing Partner William E. Russell. “We are proud that Martin will have an important voice in helping to ensure that the most qualified judges are entrusted with administering justice in our county’s courts.”

A member of Freeborn’s Litigation Practice Group, Mr. Syvertsen previously served as an Assistant State's Attorney in Cook County, where he worked in the Criminal Prosecutions Bureau handling felonies and misdemeanors from their inception through numerous jury trials and hundreds of bench trials. He also served in the Federal Civil Rights and Torts Unit and the Complex Litigation Unit of the county’s Civil Actions Bureau, representing police officers, public officials, judges, prosecutors, public defenders, doctors, and county agencies in a wide variety of complex litigation.
